Pocket bikes can be street legal?
Hey. I want a pocket bike, but can not get one because if no street legal or not. I read a lot of different things about them that is street legal or illegal, but still not sure. One person said that all he needed was the five lights. (2 front turn signals. 2 Return laps. And another break back light.) He also said he would need a license plate and insurance. Plus helmet and such. Is this true?
Absolutely not. I read about the "five lights" thing, but the lighting is just one of dozens of Federal Regulations with that road motorcycles must meet. Ground clearance is one, and no pocket bike never meet that requirement. DOT approved tires, none of which are available in small sizes. Even if you have installed the lights, must be approved by DOT lights and small magnet in a pocket bike they can not. Since that are not federally approved for use on the road, would be a federal offense for a plaque for one, which could only be done by lying to an officer DOT. The exhaust pipes are illegal. The emissions are illegal. Mirrors should be installed. That's just for starters, if I had time I could write three more times. Good news is, just because they're not street-legal does not mean you can not get one, right? Get one, but just follow the rules regarding their use and should be fine. I had 61 bikes, and one was a minimoto Blata. That was "cute", but honestly it got old really fast, and when I sold it really does not miss at all. Not to mention it was crazy hard to keep running, and I am a bicycle mechanic Freakin!
